Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that applying for a programme of study is an important decision and we want to make the process as easy as possible. We have answered some of the more common questions below, but please feel free to contact us if you cannot find what you are looking for.

How do I apply?

Go to the page BA Apply page or MA Apply page, and click the ‘Apply’ button. You will then be able to complete an application form and upload your supporting documents.

When do applications open?

Applications can be submitted all year round, and we are now processing applications for May or September 2024 for the MA and September 2024 for the BA.

When do BA applications for September 2024-25 admission close?

For BA programmes, applications should be received by 6 September 2024. BA Applications received up to 20 September 2024 will still be considered, but they will be regarded as late. Late applications are not encouraged, but we recognise they may be unavoidable in some cases. BA Applications submitted after 20 September 2024 will be considered for the next intake.

When do MA applications for admission close?

Since there are three entry points for the MA programmes, admissions are happening all year round and therefore you are encouraged to apply at any point in the year.

What happens after I submit my application form?

We will contact you by email to tell you what happens next. We will invite you to attend an interview, and you might need to take a test.

Do I have to have an interview?

Yes – we interview all our applicants, regardless of what their qualifications are. This gives us the chance to get to know you, but it also gives you the chance to get to know us, and to ask us any questions you may have.

Where will I have to go for my interview?

For the BA, your interview (and any tests you need to take) will normally be online or at the ForMission hub which is closest to where you live.

How long does the admissions process take?

This will vary from person to person, depending on what tests are needed and how promptly you respond to our correspondence! But typically, we expect the process to take about a month from the point of application to us notifying you of the outcome. However, it can be quicker if all information is to hand early on in the process and referees respond promptly!

What qualifications do I need to apply for the BA?

You’ll find the entry requirements here.

Don’t worry if you don’t meet all the educational entry requirements – we may still be able to offer you a place based on admissions tests.

What qualifications do I need to apply for the MA?

You’ll find all the entry requirements here.

What if I have lost my educational certificates?

Unfortunately, we cannot take your educational qualifications into account unless you are able to provide copies of your certificates. However, under our entry requirements, we may still be able to offer you a place based on admissions tests, or ministry experience (MA).

If you want to get replacement certificates, you can find out how by clicking on this link:  https://www.gov.uk/replacement-exam-certificate.

Can I get a student loan to pay the fees?

Students who wish to access a student loan from Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS), or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI) will be able to apply for student loans via a franchise arrangement with Birmingham Newman University. We will provide more detailed information about this to applicants who are issued an offer letter.

When do BA programme fees have to be paid?

If you plan to fund yourself or for a sponsor (such as your church/employer) to pay, your offer letter will set out the terms of payment, but your fees will usually be divided into regular payments throughout your course. You will also need to pay a deposit before the beginning of your course.

When do MA programme fees have to be paid?

Your offer letter will set out the terms of payment, but your fees will usually be paid at the start of each module, or monthly by direct debit or standing order.

What if I have access requirements, such as a disability or learning difficulty?

We make every effort to give all our applicants a fair and equal opportunity to qualify for a place, so if you need any special adjustments, please note this in your application. We will do our best to help you, both during the admissions process and throughout your course.
